Barry ran his first marathon at 49 and recently registered for his 10th.
But about two years ago, a hospitalization forced him to make serious health changes. He joined a gym not long after that, working out three days a week. Now 65, he recently hit his 100th workout.
He’d tried strength training before but is thriving now with coaching.
“The trainers are on you with the little things, proper form,” he says. “It has made me so much stronger physically and also mentally fit. I wouldn’t have gotten a kayak unless I knew I was capable of doing it.”
Barry bikes and kayaks now, activities that once felt out of reach. The strength work has paid off in his running, too, improving both performance and recovery after races.
He’s found it helps to work out with a group of friendly regulars. And he enjoys group outings together on holidays and other occasions. The social aspect is helpful to Barry, as it is for many people over 50.
“We challenge each other, and that’s a helpful tactic,” he says. “The involvement with the other members is a must for me.”
One hundred workouts in, Barry isn’t slowing down — he’s just getting stronger. Want to see what strength training can do for you, too? Call us today and let’s get going!
